FinTech Corporate Finance 2021 

The annual FinTech Almanac by FT Partners (here) reports record deal making in Fintech in 2021.

3,573 funding transactions totalling USD 141.6bn occurred. North America continues to account for approx. 50% of all transactions with Europe second at approx. 25%. Banking/Lendtech was the largest segment with 1,071 deals totalling USD 43.4bn. Average transaction sizes increased, with 399 fundings over USD 100m.

2021 was also a record year for FinTech M&A, with 1,485 transactions totalling USD 348.5bn. North America remains the single largest market but cross-border M&A rose rapidly. Private Equity buyers were more active than strategic buyers, accounted for 14% of deal volume but 62% of deal value. A record number of SPACS, 39 totalling USD 148bn occurred.

FinTech IPOs also had a record year, with 56 totalling USD 33.1bn market capitalisation. The US remains the dominant market
